    Hey Guys,

I like to know how to do SEO for a web directory?

Can any one tell how to promote a new free web directory to get more traffic and links.

Is it good to have a free directory rather than a website?

Is it Right that Web directories do not need SEO as such they are made from a ready made scripts ?

Please help me to know more about marketing strategies for a web directory.

    Thank you guys.

Try submitting the directory in other directories :p Sounds weird but there are sections for it. Check the directory section of this forum.

Well first off a directory is a website - regardless if it's using a script to power it's function and structure.

Start off by submitting your directory to other webmaster directories. If your directory is focused on one niche, or you have a few niches you would like to focus on regarding traffic - start to comment on niche related blogs with useful contribution. This will create one way links and generate some traffic, depending on your comments.

Everything online needs some sort of SEO done - even it it's a one page mini site, you still need to focus on things like keyword density, unique content and inter-site linking.

Personally I have little experience with web directories, but I do know my fair share of traffic generation and SEO - and these methods are tried and true regardless of the type of site you own.

Also, write some articles and submit them to article directories such as ezinearticles.com - as well as advertising your free directory in related forums which have classified sections.

    Hope this helps!
