always learn. It's much cheaper even to pay someone to teach you and then do it yourself for every site you make down the road then pay someone significantly less to do it for you each time.

The best tip I can say is this... Learn to the point of basic understand. More like "Why does this happen if I do X" and then hire somebody to do it to the point where it gets results you expected or better. It's dumb to hire somebody just to hire somebody. Like I own too many sites to possible do all the work myself, so I have somebody to do my SEO... She has patience which I don't. She builds links, which to me is the most boring thing in the world.

I'm the idea guy and marketer. I like to focus on my main sites, then she can work on my "test sites" or "pay for X each month sites", which are usually small sites that pay for like certain things around the house or in the business. $100 a month sites, you know. If she makes those $200 a month sites for a couple bucks I'm happy.

I don't have a problem with learning. I consider myself a jack of all trades and master of few. I won't say none just because I believe I have probably mastered a few areas. Still though, I think it's important to have a good idea of the work load and what is happening behind the scenes as you hire someone to do a task. Everyone you outsource to is looking to make as much money as possible. Therefore, something that may take only 3 hours (but you wouldn't know that unless you knew a little bit about what was going on) could cost you $150. Personally, for online outsourcing, I never pay that hourly rate. I can outsource it to someone overseas for far cheaper.

Spend your time learning everything you can get your hands on that is free. 95% of the time you can find what you're looking for on the internet and not have to pay for it. It might take a little longer but you will learn a lot. Don't short cut it.

Hiring professionals is important. If you caught by some disease of in fever so instead of starting treatment you would go to consult the doctor. Its the same, if you hire professional it will definitely great, but if you go to learn it would take time and "time is money". But if your treatment wouldn't go right it can be harmful :) so half doctor is path to death. :)

IMHO, do both... First you learn the easiest found tricks and methods of Internet Marketing like how to write quality content, link exchange with other bloggers (actually it's more of a social thing), commenting other blogs and don't forget to place the link to your blog at the bottom.

And then while you're learning these things, you can always hire someone or a company to do more the nasty jobs like keywords optimization, link submissions, etc...

Blog submissions sometimes can be a very exhausting jobs, if you or somebody need to outsource this, PM me... I do 50 blog submissions for 15$, including submissions to well known search engines.

    :)

Personally, I think a combination of both is good. I want to learn as much as I can, but that takes away from the time I have dedicated to create content.

Also, I have come to realize that time is money, and there are some things about marketing that I will never fully understand. I feel that my time is better spent knowing what I know how to do well, and I'll pay others to do the things that I am not interested in (or can't do well).

It is better to Learn if you dont have work other than internet marketing.. if you have jobs online other than internet marketing, like designing, coding, debugging, s/w developer etc. then you can hire for internet marketing, its all depend on the skill you have and need you have...

It is always good if you learn it your self and then hire freelancers for your daily tasks and link building methods, this way you will know what is happening

I have been doing both. Marketing some of my sites on my own and hiring for other sites. The sites which I market on my own do much better.

Learning without outsourcing is a lesson in poverty.

Outsourcing without learning is a lesson in frustration and failure.

Only together do they form the foundation of a functional business.
