Over the past couple of years here at DP I've noticed that a lot of internet marketers (and generally tech-savvy people) are Atheist. Do you think that your exposure to the internet and the range of differing opinions have shaped your view on religion? I never was the religious type, though I was baptized and confirmed and would visit church a couple of times a year. My visits and belief stopped during my early teen years when I began using the internet and participated in forums. While I do generally like to make decisions myself I can say that having being exposed to so many this is why God doesn't exist theories on the internet it has had a great effect on my belief, and ultimately my decision to choose not to believe.
Actually, you don't need to read something or come across a different opinion to change your belief. Just think - if God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient like they say, would he have created such an imperfect world? With such dimwitted people all over the world? He could have created the perfect place for us to live in, right? After all, if we are his 'creations', we deserve a much better place to live in, don't you think? No religious fundamentalist will be able to answer these questions without beating around the bush. So, therein lies the proof.
sometimes I think that microsoft programmers are very clever people, microsoft does not have bugs... they intentionally created the bugs maybe this imperfect world just what the God want, imperfect.
Yeah; and then he goes on to punish whoever doesn't follow his word. If people are supposed to be 'imperfect', why the hell would god want them to follow his teachings?
I will ask God your question when I meet him, or if I have the chance to meet him. Then I will let you know the answer.
Lol. I think you can say that more educated people are less inclined to be superstitious. Religion thrives on the gaps of knowledge we have in science. But as we close the gaps, so will we silence any doubt about the non-existance of a supernatural god. But as of now, the existance of a omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent god can be said to be highly improbable.
Lots of studies have shown an inverse correlation between intelligence and religiosity. Basically, The smarter one is, The less likely they are to believe in bullshit. It should hardly be a surprise to anyone that this is the case.
I'm don't believe more intelligent people tend to be atheists, but I will say that I think people in computers, technology, and science tend to be atheists because of their way of thinking. You really have to have a certain way of thinking to deal with technology and I think that lends itself to atheism. I am a Systems Admin, my dad is a programmer, and the rest of my family seemed to be more technically inclined than the average person, and our family has never been religious. Not saying we have smarter brains, just a brain that thinks differently.....
Bob builds a computer. Bob designs and implements a programming system on his computer that is capable of running all the tasks he needs without his input. Bob likes to play sim city and when he gets bored he causes fires and earthquakes. Nothing against the sims but Bob likes fire. Bob=God Computer=Universe programming=natural laws of science Sim City=Earth and fires and earthquakes are spectacular displays of programming power that we just happen to not appreciate. But hell what do I know, I am just one of those religious people playing with my primitive books and barbaric beliefs.
The studies show that those less intelligent tend to be more religious. There is an inverse correlation between academic achievement and religiosity, Earnings and religiosity and IQ and religiosity. Almost every way we judge "intelligence" shows that those who are closer to the bottom tend to be more inclined to religious beliefs. There may also be a link between analytical thinking and atheism, But "intelligence" has been shown to be correlative. Naming no names, But select a handful of religious members on this forum and a handful of atheists and you will see the link intelligence and religiosity have (not to mention intellectual honesty and integrity)
And Bob also loves to play Roller Coaster Tycoon and make people hover on a small area and build water under neith them and then disconnect the paths and poof! All them peeps drown! Or you're the type that launches a roller coaster beyond what it could be, and force them to go onto it. Poof! Dead!
I don't see how exposure to the web could have shaped internet marketers' religious views - unless, of course, they spent hours on religious web sites! The only trend I've noticed in these forum debates is that the religious people tend to be Americans, while the atheists tend to be Brits.
