Those threads will be good resources for those who read this thread Minstrel. But class action lawsuits will result from this action by Microsoft, that is good for consumers as they do not deserve this kind of treatment (extortion) by any vendor. Microsoft will be punished for this action, rest assured of this. They need to change their product release policies, everyone knows they test products on the public that are not ready for prime time, putting in danger the internet itself. Even servers are infected with viruses, so your machine can be well protected and you can go to a website (just your visit can download code that can enable the highjacking of your files and turn your computer into a zombie) and are then loaded down with spyware and viruses. Sort of the old Gator model that is still used, click on this and Gator is loaded, well now you need to click on nothing, malware is loaded just by visiting a site or viewing a photo.
I guess my point is that no matter what Microsoft does people using Microsoft software will always be vulnerable because that is what over 90% of computers are using and that is therefore going to be the target both for virus-makers (who want the huge publicity of an attack on all those Microsoft users rather than the limited publicity they've received for attacking Linux or MAC systems) and for malware creators (who again want maximum market penetration and tgherefore will continue to target Microsoft products). Plug ALL existing holes and they will find others. And if we all switched to Linux today, they would turn their attention to Linux and find just as many holes to attack. Hence my conclusion that the buck stops on my desk -- I am the ONLY one I can trust to protect my system.
You are exactly correct, attacks on M$ OS and products are up 400%. You are also right about the buck stopping with computer users, that is why I am switching to MAC. They DO NOT have the problems with registry management or active X attacks. Just think Minstrel, if M$ was not an illegal monopoly, they could buy Apple and have a decent OS, but the government will not stand for that. So the solution is to simply buy a secure OS, my bucks won't stop at M$ products again.
Luckily, you'll have AppleWorks when you switch to a Macintosh, and from what I can gather it is compatable with Microsoft Office. I have an iBook G4, but I am using Office X with it. I haven't used AppleWorks since I was in middle school. I would if more people also used it, but the standard lies with Microsoft and so for implicities sake I am staying with Microsoft too.
I did the same thing. Btw, check this funny Firefox vs. IE Ad: http://www.enjoythemilk.com/2007/06/get-firefox.html
After years of using IE, the day I downloaded and ran Firefox it took about three days to start and slowed my system to a 286 while it was loading pages. It's a dog. Or a turtle. Or something. I loathe Firefox.
Ah man who is the one who digged this 3 yrs old thread? anyway I dont really like firefox due to some of their funtion. I'm using Custom IE based explorer "tencent" and it's ok for me.
the only problem for firefox is that the thousands of sites are designed for IE,and some are uncompatible
