Yes, Memory, it won't release the memory when you close a tab in the browser. If it starts getting slow to browse or just locks up, close and restart Firefox so it can clear the used memory. (watch the memory useage in Resource Monitor and you'll be surprised.)
The problem with Firefox is you must clear the memory of stored pages to get a fresh page, tools, options, clear memory, then you get the live page.
Hmmm... even if it hadn't crashed Windows XP, that would have led me to dump it in a hurry. I can't remember when I didn't last have 6-8 IE windows open. As for the tabbed interface, I can do that easily from the XP taskbar... why do I need it?
You don't need it... I guess it's about what you feel comfortable with... I use the mouse gestures plugin on firefox, and could never go back to IE until they introduce something similiar. Right click, Up = New tab.. Right click, Left = Back... It's just habbit for me now.
Both have pop-blockers on. It is only the Google results for site:www.mydomain.com that are off. When using IE the results are 4350 vs 1740 with Firefox. Maybe the browser defaults to a different Google data source?
We have seen Google results on Yahoo months after Yahoo dropped Google. Why, because folks never erase their cookies and are looking at result pages from months ago. If you want fresh pages you must erase your cookies and clear your memory on your browsers and on your computers. In an age of advanced technology, this all seems so backwards when you are looking at pages that could be months old. What if you were to base important business decisions on pages that are 3 months old? This may or may not be your problem
I agree. As I posted earlier in this thread I just downloaded the program so I must be doing something wrong. How hard can it be to clear a cache Here is what I did from Firefox: Tools>Options>Privacy>Clear All.
This is why I am going to move to a MAC, I am tired of living in the stone age of computing, all of this M$ security crap and patching patches will drive us all insane. When asked about the state of current browsers, Marc Andressen (hope I misspelled that right) mentions that since he left Netscape, that the innovations in the last 5 years were not progress (in other words the speed of browser development and new innovation SUCKED). That tells you a whole lot about the current situation of browsers, much more research and new product development needs to happen before we are out of the woods. Until then Safari is the best thing in the world. The Netscape stuff does not impress me all that much.
ack! I'm still in the process of setting up my site and I went to check something and encountered a serious error using firefox but not ie. arggh! could someone using firefox plz click the link in my sig and see if you can navigate through a few pages of the site? As soon as i click on a link on the navbar, it pops this up....but only in firefox....:0 In my old browser everything looks as it should. I just want to make sure I don't alienate visitors using firefox! i think it has somethiing to do with my internal links, because the main page loads just fine in firefox from an external site....
your about link goes like this: http://www.exclusivefreegames.com/\\www.exclusivefreegames.com/about.htm Could be your problem.
http:\\www . exclusivefreegames . com/forums/ I checked the source code and the slashes are the wrong way. It looks like IE converts the forward slashes to back slashes. Firefox is converting the slashes as well, but then tacking the link as you have it (with forward slashes) onto the converted link.
Back to the IE vs. Firefox question. I keep finding great changes on the new version of firefox. The find function is much better. I've always found the find function in IE to be very annoying. Finally a better way of doing it!
Agreed. I've always hated the find feature on IE - can't even recall where it is. I like debugging-like find features, with options to find exact string(s).
