I'm using IE I've recently been made aware of it's suckiness/vulnerabilities. many of my friends use firefox - what do you reccomend I use? I want something with powerful protection and an intiutive IE-like interface....
Firefox is great for managing bookmarks that IE will not do well. One thing I do not like is that it does not work for a lot of applications that force you to use IE to gain access. Clearing out the memory all the time to get a fresh page is a pain in the Arse.
Mozilla/Firefox is great, much better than IE. It's standard compliant, has a good pop-up blocker, a cookie manager, a javascript console, and you can use your own CSS to prevent flash banner from displaying, especially those that prevent you from reading the content 'cause it's flashing all over the place (unlike those on DP, of course...).
FireFox, all the way. Been using it for a few months now and LOVE it. 1.0 has a few fairly big advantages over the previous versions too... The ONLY problem I really have with it, is the memory leak. Have to many windows open and my PC slows riiigggghhhht dddooooowwwwwwnnnnnn. But that isn't too big a problem really, because I use the tabbed browsing
Compared to what? I haven't seen anything on Windows that beats it yet, but if you know of something better, I'd like to see. Although I mostly use Mac, and I still like Safari better than Firefox (although Firefox is a close 2nd).
I have heard Safari is the best, too bad I have a PC (Patch of a Patch OS), maybe when I make some money I will end the pain of using a PC and get a real computer (MAC).
Shawn, compared to IE. I know we all slag it off, but compared to other browsers I've tried out it's more reliable - I found firefox slow browsing, even on ADSL, it crashed four times, and didn't work well with sites that are CSS designed (including my own website) I did like the tab feature though! Hmmm... strange. Totally different experience for me on Windows. For me, Firefox is WAY faster (6Mbit DSL), and has never crashed once.
After reading all the posts on Firefox I decided to give it a whirl. I agree, it is way faster than IE. Any known problems with this browser?
It doesn't support Microsoft's proprietary technologies that allow such glorious things as software installing itself (viruses for example) simply by visiting a website. Other than that, it's golden.
Similar experience here. I haven't tried v1.0 but v0.9 froze after installation and required a rare XP reboot. I uninstalled it and tried again about a month later, after reading all the glowing reports. This time it installed and wouldn't even start. After that I gave up and dumped it.
hmm...well I just installed it and it's working great. I cannot gauge performance because I'm sharing bandwidth on a large and unpredictable network.... will i be protected from trojans on webpages as well?
Don't rely on your browser or operating system to protect you from anything, no matter what anyone says.... Mozilla has already had several security flaws revealed, I think all of the known ones now patched. To be safe, you need three things: 1. a decent firewall 2. updated realtime antivirus scanning 3. a bit of caution and common sense Then add: 4. frequent backups of critical data
Add my vote for firefox. The fact that it's non-microsoft is a good thing in and of itself. That being said, I am a huge fan of tabbed windows. It renders pages nicely and seems just as fast as IE to me. The newest version has some nice improvements like an rss feed button on the bottom when you hit a page with an rss feed.
I agree it does have some cool features, the tabs and RSS are great additions - but I don't want to spend my time rebooting, I'm a busy lad
Jaysus, we are so far behind with the times here! Only just brought out 1Mbit broadband here in the UK!
I just noticed that the results of site:www.mydomain.com in Firefox are different than those in IE. I've repeatedly checked it. Why the difference?
