To the posters who "hope IE9 is better than the other browsers", forget about it. (Why do DP'ers never read previous posts or links?) IE9 is at least two years behind all other browsers today in modern standards and practices and falling further behind as we speak. The reason is, IE9's target is fixed and won't be changed till IE10 which won't come out for at least 3 more years. In the meantime, all other browser releases and upgrades are measured in weeks and months. IE9 will ALWAYS be the loser in this race. If you want to be in front, use ANY other browser.
I am using IE9 since yesterday and its very good. Although its not as quick as Chrome but the difference in speed is so little that you won't even notice. However I can say that its slightly faster than FF. Bottom Line is that IE9 is neck to neck with FF and Chrome. It has some great features like allowing you to pin a website in taskbar but this feature only works in Windows 7. I don't know how well it works on Vista. My friend says that the performance of IE9 in Vista is not as good as Win 7. However I will suggest you to try IE9 instead of taking my word on it.
How so? It only runs on Vista and Win7. All the other browsers are far more advanced and run on all platforms including XP.
Found out that its not reading my JS text file but all the other browsers would read it. Even IE 8 read it fine. I wonder if they are going to fix this. Anyone wanting to help me out with fixing this PM me.
Yes IE9 will be tough competitor but only on Vista and Windows 7. Overall IE will continue to lose market share unless Microsoft release IE9 for Win XP which they have refuse to do so. If Microsoft release IE9 on XP it can take away the market share of IE6,7,8 at the same time will give tough competition to FF and Chrome.
Microsoft want users to upgrade to windows vista or 7, but what about those millions of users who have low end pc & their pc's can't able to handle Vista or 7. Microsoft must really think about them.
new thing is IE9 is hardware acceleration, since it is not available for XP , it won't help microsoft gain some share of browser. many who visit my site are still XP .
I don't think not having IE9 will affect XP users much since there will be latest version of Chrome and FF for them. And Microsoft can't continue to support 10 years old OS. Microsoft is still supporting XP with latest updates and will continue to do till April 2014. But you have to understand that there are 2 more OS, newer than XP which the company also have to support. I think its time for XP users to upgrade. Microsoft has provided enough support for them.
In fact, as maxgates pointed out, you can get almost all of the features of IE9 on XP by just using any modern browser (that is, not IE9). Firefox and Chrome both support partial hardware acceleration on XP along with all the up-to-date features of HTML5, CSS3, etc. Safari and Opera do, too, but not hardware acceleration, however, Opera's speed is brilliant even without it. All the more reason no one should ever use IE.
I tried it and uninstalled it like an hour later. It ran too slow and kept crashing. I'll stick with Firefox.
This IE9 is so damn awesome! boo to jealous people,I was fed up of ff crashing and just switched to IE9 loved it.
I completely agree with you, IE 9 is awesome. I was actually surprised to see how well IE 9 works, considering IE7 and IE8 were disasters.
IE9 continues Microsoft's legacy of making the worst browser on the planet. At least two years behind all other browsers in modern standards and practices, IE9 won't be released till next year putting it another year behind. Inept and incompetent, it will sit stagnant for three years after that as others race ahead. IE9 will only be used by those who don't know anything about how the web works. No one should use IE9.
I don't know what to say. its actually quite funny that you haven't even used IE9 and yet criticize it. If there's anyone who don't know anything, that's you. Quoting what others are saying about IE instead of trying it out. I can quote hundred's of websites that praises IE9 but it won't make any difference since you have some personal issues with IE and Microsoft.
