International Traffic

Hi. I would like to bring up something that is rarely seen on DP. Though US traffic is often regarded as the top tier, let's not forget the world is our audience, and it is important to have worldwide traffic. However, this raises issues over language, and a less common but more crucial topic, culture.

When you have certain content on your site, such as articles or images that is considered as taboo in a different culture, chances are you have already lost a huge part of that nation's potential traffic. For example, you run a music site. However, you happen to display some sexually appealing images all around. In the US for example, many viewers will not navigate away. However, for audience of a different culture, they may view it as very inappropriate, feel uncomfortable, and navigate away from your site and never come back again.

So be careful with your content, do your research and find the most culturally neutral content for your site.

Wishing you all the best in webmastering. Cheers.

As a general principle, I agree with you and to that I would add this:
If a person goes on the Internet with the intent to make money, they will be well advised to have a real and viable product or service to sell because we are all operating in a Worldwide Market now and it is becoming increasingly ruthless. An enormous shakedown is occurring in the business world. Major corporations are declaring bankruptcy because they became obsolete and were defeated by a better company or an economy that no longer supports what they offer to the public (i.e. the American car manufacturers).

Cheers? Maybe. How about "Tally ho, and it's off to the races!"?? :)

Only good advice if you want boring, milquetoast content and websites.

Those type of site offend me, and I never go back to them! ;)

If you are appealing to world then it is wise to keep yourself away from sensitive issue for example sex is a taboo in many countries around the world but if you are talking about marketing everybody will be interested despite of his views about sex.
