I've just tried to log on to my blog and get this error, any ideas what it is or what could be causing it?

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Hi Phil,

The problem is with the server your site is on. What are the server logs showing?

Contact your host, most probably MYSQL is down or server is under load.

Thanks, it turned out to be maintenance on the sql database.

Dan - what are server logs and how could I check them.

Apologies if my stupidity has lead to you burying your head in your hands ;)

Server logs are just files that store information - they're usually available from within your site's hosting control panel. All you should have to do is click a link or graphic button in your hosting control panel to show them.

thats a weird error for mysql, internal server errors are normally caused by dodgy .htaccess rules.

What hosting panel are you using? (And why do I have this sneaky suspicion that 500 errors are only available to the system admins?)
