I have just recently added what I consider to be a major feature and draw to my free games site (need to work out one problem still regarding sound, but everything else is working great). For some of my sites, I build links heavily for internal pages. However, the games site has over 2000 internal pages and until now I did not have any thoughts for one internal page being more important than others. So, I had always been building links to the homepage only for that one. Of course, I do get natural links to internal pages, but I am talking about my own link building in this case. So, my question is this.. Do you think it would really do a lot more good in this case to start building links for the new section...or should I pretty much stick with going with the homepage on this one?
Homepage. And then it will channel itself to the inner pages. Together with the auto-gained links from people linking to game X and game Y, it will work up well
If you have any sections (like different categories of games) then it would be wise to get links to those as well, but as for individual pages and games then that would be tough. If you've got any games that get a high overture then shooting some links to those pages would certainly be beneficial. That would be my strategy.
I normally like to go for a 50 50 split between home and internalpages. I find incoming links generally go to internal pages (though I'm sure this is site and subject dependant) so adding promoting that manual seems more organic (in an artificial kind of way) to me.
Considering every page has its own chance of ranking highly. I would also be building links internally to the pages that matter the most. Also this will give your overall site a better balance of links, rather then having all or most of them just going directly to the main page. Brad
