Hi i was just wondering is the effectivness of an internal link is reduced from a seo perspective if: placed in a table, menu, footer menu (inside ul li), hover menu, external document, php file or javascript etc.? Also with internal links should i always use (in the code): http://www.whatever.com/whatever/whatever/doc.php instead of /whatever/whatever.php One last question, if i have a keyword say bowling ball, if the whole text "latest bowling ball prices" is used as a link will this still count as a link for the my keyword bowling ball, as it has other words to the left and right of it?
logically it has better effect or no effect for the same key words, it just will show the main page, or do you have other effects ?
Not really, a link is a link. The only time it would matter is if the link was generated with JavaScript, since search engine spiders can't read that very well (as in they barely understand it). Just make sure the link is relevant to the content on the page and the site.
As far as internal links are concerned, it doesn't matter as long as long as the links are crawlable, so no fancy javascript encoding. Doesn't matter, I prefer the second option. Since you can set in your htaccess if you want your domain to be indexed as domain.com or www.domain.com, /whatever/whatever.php gives you the freedom to replace the domain without changing any code for example. Depending on how many links and pages your site has, /whatever/whatever.php is also shorter, meaning a little smaller filesize and a little faster loading time. It won't make a big difference, but I'm a big fan of avoiding any unnecessary code. Yes. It's not wise to use the same anchor text for all links pointing to your site, so natural variations are absolutely recommended.
Absolutely. For each page you are linking to, it is advisable to have a variety of keyword phrases available. Alternate them both in your internal linking and in the anchor text you use in directory submissions and other sources of inbound links.
Variation in linking keywords can provide a natural look to your links. It is necessary linking purpose.
Thankyou everybody i fully understand now and thankyou for such a simple explanation it is really appreciated.
