Internal Links

    I'm thinking of using internal links on every page of my site on the footer
    to point to the main page using anchor text. Seems like a great way to
    get a quick 20-25 anchored links for SEO. I've read conflicting
    advice about whether Google will penalize you for this practice.
    Anyone have a reading on this?

    You want human internal linking, not search engine internal linking. Do not design your internal structure based on what works for search engines, base it on what works for humans; the search engines will pick it up just the same.
