Hey, Was wondering does internal links, like linking from one part of your sites content pages to another count as a backlink, or whats the deal? Thanks
While internal links distribute the flow of PageRank within the pages on your domain, they're definitely not a "backlink" in the true sense of the term. Linking one of your pages to another within the same domain does not get you any more total PageRank, it's only moving around some of the PR your domain already has.
Yahoo site explorer counts them as links... I do not think they are worth much but they don't hurt either..
I honestly think they do, a page with 10 links from other websites but 0 links from the rest of the same website will rank worse than a website with 10 links from the same site and 10 links from other websites. Moreover, sometimes they show up in Google as backlinks so I think that yes they do count as backlinks.
I read that you can be penalised for too many internal links from sites on the same server- is this true
I consider well-directed internal links, with well-researched keywords in the text, to be worth a lot of effort. In fact, I've spent much of the past three days adding relevant internal links to every page of my website. I'm almost done. I'll be watching the stats with interest over the next month to see if there is any notable change in rankings and traffic.
yes, I have get backlibks from my site's inner pages like wdwtourguide.com/Resort-Caribbean-Beach.html
off course internal linking is very important because most of the high ranking site rank well only because of internal linking and high traffic.
Google looks at the page structure to ensure that it can be trusted; but internal linking cannot be considered a link-building strategy. Get inbound links to boost your SERP positions. Use good internal link structure to make sure Google trusts your site. The latter is the downfall of many great blogs that can't figure out why they aren't ranking in SERPS.
