Internal Linking

Does how you link between your pages make any difference for SEO? Right now I am linking to the full url (Ex site.com/page), does it make any difference if I just use the filename as the link since the pages are in the same dir (Ex page.html) Also does it load faster if you use just the filename instead of the url, seems like it wouldn't have to look up the address with just the filename.

Which way do you guys usually do it?

 

Yes, it matters. At the end of the day, a link is a link is a link. Some just happen to be worth more than others. When linking internally, make sure you link to the page or other file via an absolute URI (uniform resource identifier); that way if the page gets scraped, you'll know where the offending site is. Not only that, but absolute URIs tend to cause far fewer problems for search engines. Also make sure that when linking internally, you are adding value to the people that use the site, rather than just for ranking purposes. Done right, an internal link will help both your ranking and your users.

 

Using good anchor text for internal links in sites can be a big factor in SEO. Wikipedia gets great results in SERPs due in large part to internal linking.

 

Use proper keywords or keyphrases to link with your internal pages and don't nofollow them.

It is good to give dofollow link within internal pages to improve ranking in google.

 

I personally prefer absolute linking over relative linking.
