Internal Linking Structure PR Suicide?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by grobar, Apr 22, 2006.

Most legit sites that take user info, normally have a link to a privacy policy.

however, im competing for a competitive keyword, so every little bit helps, and my question is, am I wasting PR by having a link on a high pr page to my privacy policy?

Or does this make ANY difference at all?

Sorry for the novice question, but PR and how internal linking affects is a new concept for me.

I'd be interested to hear that answer from some seasoned SEO's too - but you could place rel="nofollow" in the links? Wouldn't that stop nice bots like Goog's following those links and leaking your hard earned PR?

It's good practice to put nofollow tags on any links pointing to non-content pages. If the page isn't designed for serps don't spend link power on it. You don't have to put noindex meta on the page, you can still have it indexed.. but theirs' non reason to point homepage or sitewide links to it.

I've seen some sites that have a ?asdfadsfdadsfdasfdasfasdfdasadsfadsafaasfashjadhjkjkadsf=adsfadskljdasfjlkalfdjalkdsfkladsjfladskjdaskljfdaslkj variable after the url. I think the idea is that if the variable is long enough Google doesn't follow the link.

Just place nofollow on such links. I've been doing that since the creation of nofollow.

The benefit will be that your other internal pages will get a higher share of the juice.

Well IMO placing a nofollow would be just perfect... as it wont transmit the pr to irrelevent pages...

    Take care

hello grobar. I think linking to your Privacy Policy page will NOT harm your PR. Just make sure you dont have hundereds of thousands of pages linked from your page.

I'd argue it would be better pactice to allow the links to be spidered and then link back from each an every page with keyword relevent anchor text to the pages you are concentarating on ranking. This helps the PR flow around your site and creates additional backlinks.

Hmmm. But doesn't that solution mean that you will have one page with no relevant content in it and a few links to the main theme just placed there. Could make Google just go like hmmm, I dont like this.

I didn't think it would make any difference. Google gives every page it's own pagerank. Anyway I hope I don't need to change all the pages of all my sites.

No, all the pages should have content. I'm not sure you're understanding the idea.
