Internal Linking Question

    Hello,

I am building a website and trying to achieve efficient internal linking. Basically the website's linking structure will be similiar as in here

The home page points to products which will be in a left side navigation bar.No-follow attribute will be used for the the links which are located in top navigation and footer. Sitemap will point to less important pages as contact, terms, resources etc as well as main product pages and other important places.

My question is; whether this structure is efficient in terms of seo, or what would you recommend?

I don't really see a reason to worry about internal linking much. I wouldn't use the no-follow.

It is good that you are taking a close look on your internal linking (it is important and can help a lot). The scheme you have designed it does look good, I would advice you not to use nofollow as it is not needed, you do want to share link love and PR juice with your internal pages so do it.

Now I don't know how the product details page will look like, or if the products are somehow related to each other, in case they are I would also try and interlink them too (ONLY if you think that can increase sales, aside from SEO perspective).

In simple words, try to create a network (where each page connects with another "related" page by using your keywords as anchor text) in order so that not only spider bots will be able to follow the links and crawl the content but that also users will find those links useful (and possibly buy more than just one product).

    Hope this helps, kinda sorta..

    Thanks for the replies.

Just confused how to achieve this stucture without using nofollow as I use the top navigation and footer in every page (include files)

And i am convinced that using nofollow is legitemate and easy way to do page rank control after reading this post

Personally I wouldn't use nofollow internally, except maybe for areas I specifically don't want crawled, in which case I probably wouldn't have that area linked in the first place. Besides, you never know what page might pick up an organic link and pass PR on to other pages.

There was a time when I put a great deal of thought into hierarchical navigation for optimum PR distribution, but I just don't think it's important enough now to spend the time on now.

For internal linking nofollow is not required.
    Do linking in content also.

No-follow is unnecessary.. As long as you are linking your pages together via text links, you will be fine :)
