I know that having a good internal link structure can help out your seo efforts. However, how much is too much? Or is more better? For example, I write content for my clients and hyperlink targeted keywords with in the articles to certian pages on their website. I know this helps their seo efforts due to the internal link profile. However, say I end up with 10 -15 of the same hyperlink target keywords in that one article. Will the Search Engines think of this as spam? I mean it does look a bit spammy but will the search engines think the same. Thanks for the input!
I would think that many would dilute the link juice of each, especially when you consider any other links on the page. I know from a personal point of view, too many links can be annoying within text. I guess it partly would depend on how much content there is on the page.
For articles it is usually better to limit each paragraph of 3-5 sentences to 1-2 internal links each (preferrably 1). That isn't a set-rule, but it's a guideline I usually go by. Then again, sometimes I just go nuts and post links all over the place.
My opinion is that it's too many. At that point you're not doing it for the reader anymore, and that's usually when Google will flag it as spam. I don't think Yahoo and MSN give a rip though - it will probably help with those two.
Thanks for the feedback. Here is a follow up question. Say I limit the amount of hyperlinked keywords to 4 - 5 per page, but all the other keywords I give them a hidden bold or italic attribute. Would that be considered cloaking because the users would not see the bold or italics keywords but the search engine spiders wouldn't ? What do you think about that?
Yes that would be considered cloaking - it really wouldn't provide much benefit anyway. I would spend your time trying to get links instead of trying so hard with onpage optimization.
