Just a quick question, I know internal linking is very effective for SEO and I also know having the correct anchor text from an external source is also very effect for SEO, but is it important to have relevent anchor text for internal linking? The reason I ask is I have provided a link to my homepage the end of every post, and called it homepage. Would it be worth while calling it "HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE HOMEPAGE" I look forward to your responses...
ABSOLUTELY... The link text you use for every link on your site to other pages on your site is important. Hell, check my blog below. I even changed the HOME link in my global navigation to "Learn SEO". Most people seem to not even notice. They know the leftmost tab in the global navibation is always HOME. And it helps my home page rank for "Learn SEO" and other variations since every page on the site is linking to it with that link text. For low competive phrases, link text from internal linking alone can often put you on page one. Inbound links from internal pages are evaluated just like links from external pages. Both give Google and the other engines STRONG hints as to what the page being linked to is about. Google and the other engines evaluate link text of ALL inbound links - internal AND external. They are looking at the PR of ALL pages linking to your URL - internal AND external. Google and possibly some of the others are likely also looking at the relevancy of pages linking to your URL - internal AND external. I just made a post about Theme Pyramids as an SEO friendly site architecture on my blog a couple of days ago. I am a big fan of theme pyramids sites. I have seen them work WONDERS for sites that use them effectively. I used them on our PR7 commercial site as part of its last site redesign to improve SEO. I ended up 301 redirecting every web page on the site because we completely rearchitected the site to use theme pyramids. Rankings absolutely soared after all inbound links to the site were recrawled. Theme pyramids not only distribute PR effectively around the site, but also promote what I call the "flow of relevancy" between pages on the sites. Using effective link text is VERY important in making the theme pyramids (or any other site architecture for that matter) work both from a usability AND SEO perspective.
Another question just occured to me. How much can I utlise this without google punishing me SEO wise. For example my 5 series post "MAKE MONEY BLOGGING" Could I Link each of the other posts in the series at the bottom, an example below: MAKE MONET BLOGGING: POST 1 CONTENT MAKE MONET BLOGGING: POST 2 MAKE MONET BLOGGING: POST 3 MAKE MONET BLOGGING: POST 4 MAKE MONET BLOGGING: POST 5 AND THEN.... MAKE MONET BLOGGING: POST 3 CONTENT 4 OTHER LINKS IN SERIES Would that be to much or not?
Linking to the other posts in the series is a good idea. You may want to install a wordpress plugin for this to happen automatically (if you are using wordpress). The plugin is called Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.. (YARP)
Internal Linking is really a very useful strategy to get your inner pages indexed and searched in a well manner. It's one of the key point of On Site SEO so you should implement it.
