If I link a word in an article to the current page, will this still be a good link?

    for example.

If I link the keyword on this page examplesite.com/article.html to point to the same page (examplesite.com/article.html essentially going knowhere).

Is this still a good link or does google know its going to the same page and just cancel out the link?

I think this was a strategy 5 years ago, but there is no way this will work today.

Yeah, I don't think this really works any more when building internal links.
