I work for a large ISP who’s hosting platform uses "clustering" technology - so to Google all sites appear within 32 IP's. All the sites hosted are different domains and maintained by our customers. Given this would Google discount cross-links between these sites within the cluster since the IP's are within a class C space? There is some discussion internally that Google no longer uses the IP to discount this but I am not so sure. Thanks - Gene
If a sites backlinks all come from the same block of IP's then it will raise a flag with google. As long as the sites are not linked together excessively and they have a good number of links outside this block then it won't be an issue.
I think in this case there isn't linking "just" from within our IP's. We are looking at creating a Hosting blog, and offering blog websites to customers and they would all be "Powerd By..." with a link back to us. We already have a huge amount of links from elsewhere as well... so it sounds like were OK. Gene
So even though we won't get a Google flag raised for links back to us within our own cluster (because we have lots of links from outside in) will we benefit at all from the "linked to us" blog sites within our cluster that do have a PR > 0?? Gene
