Interlinking my Spanish School websites

I have a main website for our Spanish School:

    http://www.queretarolanguageschool.com

and have created some smaller sites such as:

    http://www.cookingclassesinmexico.com
    http://www.survivalspanishinmexico.com

... and a few more for the specific classes and courses the school offers, as well as a blog and a photos page. They are all hosted on the same server.

I have read that creating multiple links between all of them is a No-No, but I do need to have at least 1 link from the main website, to each of the smaller sites, and then at least one link from the smaller sites back to the main site.

My question is, will google think this is an attempt to create a huge interlink/link farm and penalize my SERP for this? If so how do I get around it? We are on a low budget, so getting multiple servers is not really an option.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Google considers cross linking between your sites as a negative.
    But
if you have whois privacy. And no body can see the actual details of your domain name then you can link your sites without any harm.

I have whois privacy, but would that hide the fact that my my IP addresses are similar from google?

Please know that, I am not trying to trick google, I simply do not want to be punished for having one main site and several related niche sites.

Just do this; you can interlink them, just use the nofollow attribute. Seperately rank each site for various keywords and use the satelite sites to drive traffic to the main one. This is the best method to use.

If you link back and forth between the sites this will have little benefit from an SEO point of view, but may send people back and forth between the sites. I would select the most important site and have all the other sites link to this and not have it link back. That should boost it some, one way links have more benefit from an SEO point of view. But also consider the user, does it make sense to link between all the sites so visitors can go between them?
