If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington D.C.
Where this fails is not adding in those seriously wounded, brain dead and unable to walk, loss of a limb etc.
interesting link here showing the lost oportunity costs thus far for the war. http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182
So is that the cost of new democracy and freedom in a country that has never seen any in 3000 years or so? Not too bad, after all many say that it's being done for their oil, so the money is going to come back, or not? Is it going only to some? Well, they are going to spend it, so here comes the money! Or maybe the cost is not such an issue after all, in fact what I really don't like is the loss of lives, not of the terrorists, after all that bothers very few people, even the terrorists themselves are not bothered as they are going to be rewarded as martyrs, something like 70 virgins (cool and tempting, huh?).
$5 trillion dollars has been spent on the "Great society" so far, since the 1960's or so, thru welfare, social security, etc - and none of the problems it was trying to fix are even near completion. At least the war has a foreseeable end and a goal. Where is the complaining about those trillions of dollars that are flushed down the drain?
