Hello, i have a website, traffic getting mostly from SE. Have few keywords that i targeting, and with those keywords I'm at 1st or 2nd position in most of search engines. But one day happen strange thing, got 3x more traffic then usual. I checked on google analytics for source and found that all visitors came from same search engines and from same keywords, but shows me that these keywords bring me 3x more visitors. Something I'm not understand, how can one day keyword search volume would be 3x more? Or we have a parallel internet somewhere ? Any comments? Thanks
Well, it really depends on which keywords you are ranking for. If you rank for a celebrity name, for example, and they are doing something newsworthy, you might see a spike in traffic. It's difficult to tell without knowing the number of visitors you are getting for these keywords and what the keywords are, because there could be a variety of reasons for the spike in traffic. One of my sites, for example, has less visitors at certain times of the year and then sees a spike in traffic at other times of the year.
note that google is worldwide not for your country only. so maybe you have better position from other countries also
Ya, it depends on your keyword. However, If you have a UNIQUE content and as soon as it is cached, you will be listed for the keyword search (if you have well optimize the page for SEO). However, it will drop after some time, To maintain the same, you have to get more backlinks...
I agree with the others, perhaps your keyword is part of a trend and you are just seeing the upturn in the trend?
Hey there The same thing happens with me time after time. I think this is because some of your articles or other listings with the backlink to your site goes high on the internet, Or may be someone liked your website and made few bookmarks. something like that cheers
some keywords can bring in lots of traffic one day and not much later. for example, tv shows season finale will bring in lot of traffic on the day of the air. lot of people willbe searching on the day of american idol and search for contestants and judges. its all about the trend. i would not complain about the extra traffic
here is what i think happened: you are probably not from the US, and 70-80% of the English web traffic to your website is probably from USA, when you was checking your rankings you was #1 or #2 from your Country, not in the US data center, you could have been #7 or #8 in the US, but u just didn't know it because u never checked using a US data center or Proxy, then always without knowing it, your rankings improved in the US data center and u became #2 or #3 in America, that's why you traffic tippled, if you are still getting that traffic then it means you are now somewhere near 2 or 3 in the US GOOGLE, if the traffic is back to normal, then it must have been just a fluctuation in the US data center, you got a temporary improvement in rankings, but now everything is back to normal. this is just a theory but that's my opinion.
yes, mainly traffic comes from english countries, like usa, uk and so on.... And I'm always checking in search engines theirs country search results, not my country's... So we have there a good ranking always, and in that time when i got more traffic was same ranking.... Keywords that I'm using is not celebrity or other, which could one day have more search volume, and other day less.... it's already 1 year have similar volume... So i don't think that your's theories are fit. Any other ideas ?

But my keyword was only for few hours bigger, and as I've said it's not kind keyword like MJ or other celebrity, it's always has similar volume... I just know somewhere i got higher ranking, but where? If in every SE country i checked and we already in high position....

So what is the best way to reliably check the rankings for the US (or whatever other country)? I check Alexa and go by that. I don't know how to check Google ranking for the US without a proxy. I do have a page ranking tool though (Quirk). Does that show figures for the US?
