Read this somewhere, not sure if it's saying that we should backlink are URL contain the "www" or not containing the "www" (very badly written).

So is this saying when you backlink, do it like this: Yahoo! - http://www.yahoo.com or Yahoo! http://yahoo.com

In most cases with the www but whatever your choice organise your IBL´s so they are going to the same url evey time. Using a mixture of www. mysite dot com, mysite.com and www. mysite.com dot com/index.html would dilute your link popularity.

You should decide on which one you want to use and redirect (301) the other to that URL. Be sure all of your links go to one and not the other. I suggest using www dot yoursite dot com for people tend to use the www when linking.

it means that http://you.com and http://www.you.com are classed as two different domains, so when getting backlinks have them all pointing to one or the other.

    Then how about this one:

I have http://www.myname.com for anchor text in all incoming back links and then I made a permanent 301 from /index.php and /index.html to /keyword.php.

Are you sure that this will hurt my page rank in the long run?

I know it takes away any page rank right now, but won't it come back once Google updates?

Google page rank treats www. and without www as different pages as well. Works same for backlinks. Because WWW. acts like a sub-dir

I think the only difference it sees is a dilution of the same site. Basically not giving you the most bang for your buck.

    Follow Smyrl's advice...

Ok, got yah, backlink (1) same site only (which will be www. for me), thanks but, are there any consiquences for not 301 directing? - I am very confused in 301 redirecting and I would rather not do it if there's no advantage to doing it.

So please tell me, what can happen if I don't 301 and how bad is not 301-ing url.com to www.url.com? Thanks

I looked man, I searched for: "what the Æ’uck happen if you don't use the Æ’ucking 301 redirect god Æ’ucking damnit" got nothing... so you think you could simply answer, I know you know what the answer to this is man, and it wouldn't be more then a yes or no and 4-5 words why 301 redirecting is so important/not important. Example:

    Yes, because people get lost.

    or

    No, because no.

Instead, you take the time to laugh:

    then you

fallowed by a... lets see what's that, 30 word sentence.

You are the true meaning of retard :)

For info on 301 you might read http://developers.evrsoft.com/artic...ain-names/why-use-multiple-domain-names.shtml regarding why to use a 301 redirect.

For how to do a 301 redirect you first must ascertain if you are on an Apachee server. If so your control panel may automatically set up a 301 for you, otherwise you will have to set it up in your .htaccess file. There are 301 redirect tutorials online. If you are not hosted on an Apachee server, someone else will have to advise you.

    Wow,

I don't know what to say. The politically correct term would be mentally challenged. Secondly, why would you expect anyone to help you with when:

    a) You are obviously too lazy to do any work on your own

    and

    b) your retort to my "try researching it on your own" post was met with profanity, degradation of character and insulting the mentally challenged. You should be thankful I even responded after you spammed three posts in row.

If you would like to chat about this over PM I would be happy to do so.

I told it to do perminent redirect from control panel: frontend/x/mime/redirect.html but it freezes, this is what I told it to do.

    Current Redirects

I think I did something wrong, could you tell me? thanks.
