This is probably the most screwed up marketing strategy I've every seen. Basically what this guy does is gives away a FREE affiliate script that he knows doesn't work. After an affiliate earns their commissions, there is no way to view their information in the administrator area nevermind pay them. I'm sure there are a lot of people who used this script to build up their affiliate program, only to find they can't pay their affiliates! There's also other serious bugs in the script such as a problem with the full password showing when an affiliate needs to change their info. All that show is one star so if the affiliate changes their phone number without typing in their password, they won't be able to log back in! If you ask him for assistance on his forum, he'll basically tell you that the free software doesn't come with support and to buy his $99 software. If you want somebody to buy your full-version product, don't you normally offer them a free limited product that is still functional?
