Interesting Question for when using {KeyWord:default}

Say I have a keyword list that says the following:

    [White Socks]
    "White Socks"

My ad in relation to these ads says:

    Get {KeyWord:Socks} holders here

My question is this: If someone searches on "White Socks Tubes", I know my ad has a chance to be displayed because of the "White Socks" keyword. But will the corresponding ad say "Get White Socks holders here" or "Get White Socks Tubes holders here"? Obviously the former is better.

Is the {KeyWord:Socks} tag always related to my keywords or to the user search, whatever that may be? If it is related to the user it would mean that the only way to stop such things happening is to use [White Socks] as a keyword only.

    Thanks!

    It will show:

    "Get White Socks holders here"

Due {KeyWord} variable replace the matching keyword that you have in adGroup, not what the user string searched for - it would only replaced by the another option only if you have the "White Socks Tubes" keyword on your adGroup.

Also this would only be valid if you are not talking about the headline as the result has 29 letters - the headline allows only 25 letters - in case of Headline the result would be the Default result:

    "Get Socks holders here"

Keyword only - this is the more obvious explanation imagine if your ad show the same text for user search like (ignoring ad space limitations for while ):

    used white Socks
    free white socks
white socks for dead people

so try to make your adGroup keyword list more complete possible to mach all possibilities.

but anyway remember to add negative keywords like: "used", "free" and "dead" ;)

    Awesome response, thanks alot!

However I was correct that I would not be effected by searches like white socks for dead people etc if I used the [] tags around my keywords right?m although it would of course limit me!

yes this is correct: using the [] tags also called "exact match" you do not need to concern with another words or creating negative keywords. But this limit the traffic for this keyword.
