There must be thousands of these types of sites popping up all over the place but I recently came across this interesting one. kind of a clever spin on the idea. Check it out:

It's a clever ideia, but I'm getting sick of it... One guy is smashing is viper (or he say so, only the trunk and the hood are beeing punished, easy to repair) and gets those banners on another million dollar website.

The first one was original, the others just don't make much sense.

I already seen many of those pixel and icon sites. But i dont know why companies buy adspace on these kind of sites. The maker of the site probably sends out millions of calls a day to find 1 little company that thinks it is so 'original'. anyway, i dont know why.

One thing i know is that the official milliondollarhomepage got a succesfull website because he was the one who created it. He gets all the attention.

But I as a consumer will not go to such a website to look for interesting companies of products. searching a little blok of 10x10 pixels in a bunch of little ads.

the thing is some of the ideas are Rrrrrubish but you still get people paying them money for a spot on their site which often or not does not pass on PR and is generally worthless!

    Hello Every One!
I saw some traffic comming from this forum so I came to see what happens here ;)

Icon sites? Sorry there is only one so far, mine. And a copy somewhere in Croatia where a poor guy didn't found anything better to do than to mirror it.

Because they are looking for customers.

Wrong. I have never contacted a company. OTOH, I have posted in a few forums and I have maintained a blog. So far, I sold three icons, the first one to a webhosting company that contacted me at the very beginning, the second one via eBay to a company for a website templates and the third one to an individual running a french pixel website.

Right. But mine gets some attention too (thanks to the original poster). There was 5,000 visitors yesterday.

If you know what you're looking for, you will certainly not go to such a site. OTOH, you may discover something interesting just by chance. BTW, my icons are 32x32 with an always visible text. So you get half-targeted visitors.

    Regards, Guillaume

Thanks voor de answers and comments. Nice to hear your mdscreenshot is going good.

The idea is good, but didnt thought that it would be worth it to create a website like that.

Not really. Most of these sites have a low PR (no text content, full of links, still in the sandbox). Additionaly, a lot of them use a click counter to track the number of visitors sent. I do too. First because it lets me (and potential buyers) know if this is usefull or not. Second because the top list generates additional links. Third because we deal with visitors not PR. Fourth because I want to offer a CPC of $0.01 (or less) to all the buyers.

Remember you dont need to PR to get lots of traffic. PR is just Googles way of saying, "I'm watching you".

Well it is a bit more than that, it is also "I'm recommanding you" so it can influence the percentage of visitors finding your website with a search. Depending on the kind of website, this percentage can be important or not.

To all these copycat sites out there creating clever
twists in the original idea, I have got 4 words for you...

    'Think Outside the Box'

Man, create your own original idea. You can't get rich
copying someone. (Just look at the guy's stats and
the number of sales to see what I mean. I mean the
idea's pretty cool. It's quite innovative actually. And
yet, he has gotten about 40K visitors, and sold only
5 icons. What does that prove?)

Yeah, you're not gonna get rich off spinoffs from this idea. Maybe some pocket cash, but the thought of that should make you depressed. Go find a job, spend time studying investing, come up with a truly innovative idea, or add an useful twist to an existing idea that will actually solve a problem. Millionaires aren't breeded by copying others.

Actually everything we do has already been done so we humans are just much of a copy-cat than anything else.

Rather its an original or an idea, it still has value. Take a look at Picasso or Rembrandt, their originals are worth in millions of dollars and yet today, their prints or giclees are still worth a few hundreds if not thousands. So being a copy-cat is no big deal. History speaks for itself.

And honestly, not everyone wants to become a millionaire. They just want to have the main neccesities at hand and live a little more comfortable then before.
