At least for me I have one question related to domain names. Example ( not real) : I own a big TV Spoiler site "spoilers.com" I'm planing to open new separated section with separated CMS ( Wordpress) "spoilers.com/lost-spoilers" If I own domain name lostspoilers.com, can I use it somehow in my advantage for SE rankings Thank you
You can 301 redirect the domain to your subfolder. It won't have a huge impact on your rankings though.
I think that 301 redirect is absolutely horrible, it kills rankings. I say make separate site and keep all content on there, using first larger site to link to it.
I've never understood the point of making a second site? You have to spend extra time and money promoting and marketing it. Content and links are divided between two domains rather than focused on one. Two domains don't mean doube the vistors, it means half the effectiveness of your marketing If you don't believe me listen to Rand 301 is the way to go.
Damn So I have 2 options: Use so called domain name "lostspoiler.com" as RSS /Atom feed content generator for my larger site? If I just redirect it then how can I use this domain name in my advantage? Will it rank on Google at all? I need to do something with this domain, I purchased it so that no one else can, because this is my main keyword on my big site. Example: If you type blogfc.com on Google you will see that Google ranks soccerlens.com first. The owner redirected this domain name on SoccerLens because he did not have time to update blogFC. Maybe I can do the same with my domain name, but first I should put some content on "lostspoilers.com" so that it can rank high? Thanks everyone, and thanks for the link MattUK!
No, it probably won't. Having multiple domains isn't really much of a benefit unless they receive a good level of type-in traffic. No, keep all of the content and links on one domain - spreading it between several will just weaken your primary property.
Hmmmm.. in previous post you said that I should redirect it, how do I benefit from that if I don't get any traffic expect type-in traffic. Isn't it better to use some kind of feed content generator, buy some links from tnx.net and ask couple of bloggers to link on "lostspoilers.com" ( I know many of them so it shouldn't be a problem) And later... 301 it. Definition of 301 redirect is to tell search engines that the content from page xyz as "moved permanently" to page abc. That's what Soccerlens have done, and they still rank 1t for BlogFC. or Just keep this domain name so that no one can have it?
Not really, for several reasons, 1 - Content generators mostly create dupicate content 2 - Any links or content will be better server on your main domain 3 - You'' be better having a lostspoilers subdomain/subfolder on your main domain People always seem to think it's beneficial to have additional domains, but it really isn't. The same effect would be had from putting the content on the main domain in the first place and not having to redirect specific URLs.
