Summary: I need to start a new link building campaign, but I need advice on what page to point the links at. The question and answer revolve around the importance of having the best keyword in my domain name. Keywords: Two high competition keywords. Google search either keyword and get about 20 million results. Important point: Keyword#1 generates 10x more internet searches per month than Keyword#2. Domain Name: My domain name contains Keyword#2 like this: www.Keyword#2.com SERP Results so far: Google search keyword#2, which is my domain name, and I get SERP 2. (But remember that keyword#2 only gets 1/10th the number of searches as keyword #1.) Google search keyword#1,which is not in my domain name, and I get SERP 50. (So my web site till gets low number of hits due to bad SERP) Plan: Plan is to get more hits from link building campaign. Question: Where should the new links point to: a) Keyword#2.com, or b) Keyword#2.com/Keyword#1.html Remember that Keyword#1 gets 10x more Google searches per month than Keyword#2. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I think you should go with option b, in my opinion you would rank better for both, because keyword #1 is related to keyword #2, yes?
I'm interested in this too. Btw, if you own the site, it wouldn't hurt for us to know the same would it?
Hi Blinda, I think this is a question, not of which term gets the most searches, but of which page, if traffic is driven to it from that key term, is going to result in the most sales, ad clicks, opt ins (I'm assuming you are monetizing this site somehow) etc on your site. You know what I mean? Assuming best case scenario, you might get to the front page for the more searched term, but you might find out that the traffic from that term doesn't convert as well on your offer as the other term (or vice versa)... Have you tried driving some ppc traffic to the pages from the two terms you mentioned to see which page converts the best? There's nothing worse than spending months and big $$ on a link building campaign only to find out that the resultant traffic you get doesn't result in any extra cash in your pocket. Just something to think about Andrew
