Which Google Ads perform best for you? Those generated according to user interest and visitor history OR those generated according to content and keywords?

You can decide which you want in your google account. I don't think you can have both - it's an either or. I changed mine from ads related to a users search history to ads which ignore this and are based solely on content. My earnings seem to have gone down but I'm continuing for a few days more.

I'm thinking that Google wouldn't have come up with this new (newish) method unless they believed it would result in more sales for their advertisers (and in the process their publishers) but I wanted to check it out for sure... hence the thread. With respect to you, I was hoping for some replies from big Googlers... so to speak but thanks for your comment

Show ads based on user interest categories. Visitation information from my sites may be used to help create interest categories.

Do not show ads based on user interest categories. Visitation information from my sites will not be used to help create interest categories.

Adsense automatically applied the interest categories and if you don't want this you have to go to your account settings and change it.

To be honest I have noticed no improvement in earnings. Who knows what criteria they are using and how far back they go in user searches to get this information?

I shut mine off. I want my ads to be related to my site content not based on visitors interest (Other sites they were looking at) I can say if its doing better or worse atm.

I'm going to stay with the content based option for another few days before I decide which option to go with. However, I'm not noticing a huge difference (if any) in the ads served...

Update. After 5 days showing contextual ads I have reverted back to interest based ads. The main reason was the apparent slump in earnings. Also, I figured if Google thought publishers would make more with contextual ads that would be its default setting. Of course, it could be a general slump! I'll analyse my figures over the next 5 days and if it continues I'll probably revert back again.

I'd still be interested to hear form DP members who have experimented with this.
