Hi Folks, I have been wondering, what you mean by intelligent linking. How can you decide a site to be of similar content ? Or how will you decide the linking to a particular site will help your ranking ? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
One problem with linking to sites with similar content is that those sites are typically competitors. If you are charging for something, you don't want potential customers going elsewhere. From a business point of view, it is better to link to people with complimentary content/services: e.g., you are an seo company. Complimentary websites could include web directories, web design firms, web hosting firms, webmaster forums etc. It may not improve your search engine relevancy (I am not an expert at that, so I think it would depend on the search engine), but your traffic should be better quality.
I don’t think about PR when it comes to out-bounds, all I am concerned with is how my customers follow the links. I want them to have the best of everything when it comes to content. If you have great relevant links, your site will become a one-stop shop. If you link to garbage, well you know what will happen; patron will lose respect and trust of site.
I would say, still keep the quality of your links up, at least as much as possible. If your site is useful for information, and outgoing links, people will link to it off their own back.
