Quite wrong, Intel is definitely a winner in dual core processors.
If you are a gamer, go for Intel Core 2 Duo processors with a good graphics card such as geforce 7800 or better. Also get as much ram as you can..

    It all depends, really

Intel right now is winning over AMD

BUT the new Intel processors are coming out in november, so if you buy anything now it'll not only be outdated from Intel, they're also brining out a new socket so you'll have to upgrade your mobo AND ram (DDR3) if you want to upgrade in the future

with AMD, it's brining out it's phenom processors soon

no one knows if they'll be good or not

but they're backwards compatible with AM2

so you'll easily be able to upgrade in the future

    so the question is
    the present, or the future
    what's more important to you?

future? go AMD, get a cheap 4000x2 processor (I have, couldn't be more happy)

present? go Intel, but don't get a quad core processor. Cause they suck with gaming, no gain at al l

    lol no

firstly, either go with a HD 20xx series card from ATI or go with a 800x card from nvidia (may I add that the 90xx nvidia line is coming soon, so don't rush into things)

secondly, don't get as much ram as you can
get 2 x 1gb sticks with good timings
if you get 3, or 4 there's a few problems

    1) windows 32bit (the one without the compatibility problems) will only recognize 3gb of ram, max
    2) the timings. When you have 3gb+ of ram, you can't get any better than CAS 5 and T2 timings, which will bottle neck your ram

Also, for the record, Intel isn't as far ahead of AMD as people make out

    look at these facts

    http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html

and for gaming, the graphics card is much more important than the processor (most games don't use as much CPU power as you'd think)

price per watt AMD is owning Intel, and probably always will to stay competitive

ATI has glitches with DirectX 10, Specially with shaders, nVidia works well.
And notice I said 7800 or better, as I have no clue about his budget. Geforce 8 series is hell expensive for some. so buying a 7800 is better option than buying a low end Geforce 8 series card.

not with the new drivers, I've not had any problems at all with my x2600xt

and if he wants to get a DX9 card, go with the x1950gt or pro or something

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=360&card2=500

nvidias top dx9 card vs ati's top dx9 card

and price wise ATI beats nvidia

AMD has always been the cooler company, but over the last few years they've been throwing their weight around. Intel are cunts, trying to make it illegal to modify your computer hardware.

On the plus side, Intel are used in macs.... but I still prefer AMD.

Right now the better processor is the Intel Core2Duo. So i vote Intel. Later if AMD wins over Intel in performance, i'll surely vote for AMD.

Looks like Intel's the most popular, but is AMD better for gaming than Intel?
