I need help! I am a complete beginner at all this programming stuff, and I am trying to do This. So far I have uploaded the SMF database to a folder in Public HTML called "forum". I thought that once that was done when I put in mysiteurl.com/forum it would come up. But it doesn't so what do I do from here???
Thanks any help would be awesome,

I don't know much about it, but I suspect you need to download and install Simple Machines Forum (SMF) first. Then upload the plugin you cite into the plugins folder of your WordPress blog and activate.

Ya I installed SMF but I don't understand how you make it be on your domain.

I have never used this plugin but they give full instructions how it works. Activate the plugin and make sure you know where the SMF is installed. For example, if it installed in a folder called forum, the path URL would be yourdomain.com/forum. That needs to be put in where it ask for the path on the admin panel. For full instructions, read the section under the Installation tab from the link you provided.

Then it could be a conflict with your Permalinks setting, maybe. If your post URL is like
    http://domainname.com/this-is-the-post
then WordPress is probably trying to find the word forum as part of your post.

The probable workaround is to go to your server panel like CPanel and add a physical redirect from http://domainname.com/forum to your directory at /home/public_html/forum or something like that.

Just a suggestion, this could work or maybe not.

Seems like that would work. I think the problem is on my end though. All I did was make a new folder called Forum in my Public HTML. Is that all I needed to do for mydomain.com/forum to come up as the actual forum?

Ok I got that part. But am trying to integrate the two and it's failing. The plugin shuts down the entire blog every time I try and install it.

I wonder what the probem could be but anyways, if you have done everything correctly as said in the instructions, you shud check for minor things like spelling mistakes. Maybe you made a directory called Forum and are trying to check mydomain.com/forum... Just a suggestion.... though I'd be in a better position to help you out if I cud see the site
