Has anyone on this forum attempted to run a forum with a blog...Is this a smart idea or am I just dreaming? Is it possible to have a wordpress blog coexist with a forum?

    Is this smart?

What would the point be? You could simply have your forum reside on myblog.com/forums - there's no real need to integrate the logins, since Wordpress doesn't have user logins anyway...except for guest writers, I guess.

Can phpBB3 be integrated with WordPress?
With the plugin name 'WP-United' or something like this.

I think there is a bridge for phpBB, but bridges are to be used at your discretion - they almost always have problems, especially down the line as new versions of WP are released

Ya I dont think I am goign to do it...its not worth the risks, but I think I will be putting a forum on my site for a place for users to tell me what movies they want to see on the site...

What do you think? DO you Think its smart that i create a forum with very little content...i mean it would probably be like 2 Folders

It would be worth doing it, for sure...since it won't be big, you might as well go with a free forum like SMF...it has a lot of options and tons of great skins.

My only question is it going to be hard to keep up with the coding and everything? I mean are there sufficient sites out there to help me get through the addons and everything that everyone does once their forum starts getting popular?

One simple message board that I have used and will be using again and again is called MBoard.

The things I like about this are:

    - No MySQL database needed.
    - Perfect if you don't want a big empty forum.
    - Very customisable.

WP team has solved this problem. They have created bbPress. It is full customizable and it integrates the accounts of the blog and the forum. I can help you with this. What do you think?

I do not think it's smart, at least in case your blog hasn't got much traffic.. Nothing else works so badly for potential forum guests as an empty forum :p
And since you got a blog, maybe a request page with comment enabled would do the trick? :) Anyway, if you choose the forum, I don't think that you need to integrate it with the blog, just place it in a subdomain like it already was suggested :)

I personally don't like bbPress at all. It is way too basic for my taste, but that's just my opinion.

charlietree: SMF has a really good support forum. Using SMF is relatively easy, although some community mods can be a pain to install...but overall, it's the best free forum in my opinion. phpBB gets targeted by hackers way too much.
