For those that thought .me domains were worthless, think again. It's curious to see what kind of company is behind the bidding and domain name but it will be only a matter of time before we find out. Of course, all of the simple verbs are mostly gone by now. Insurance companies are where the big profits roll it so I'm not surprised that it is going for that much. In fact, if the auctions were public (as in anybody allowed to bid) it might be double that. Phonetically, its catch and easy to remember and would suit well for a radio ad. "To find out more information visit us online at insure.me." The top 5 so far: insure.me 119 23H 43M $25,055 hug.me 69 17H 21M $11,005 secure.me 88 16H 0M $7,010 why.me 105 22H 51M $6,600 ride.me 60 13H 3M $5,280 I've also noticed on auctions.domain.me that the time left is not definite. In other words, if a period of time has gone by and finally someone places a bid the clock gets reset so there is more time to bid.
Unfortunately, if you did not register the domain names during the Sunrise or Landrush Period (before public registration on July 17th) then you cannot participate in those auctions. It does piss me off because I do have receipts for hug.me and secure.me but thats a diff. story. You can view the auctions at https://auctions.domain.me
Now how many of these verb holders secured the "ing" word extension I wonder. Just add "ing" and you may find some names left. However I do think the dotMe idea is not just for any word. They need a niche name that does not sound too stupid when combining to the dotME ext. The ones you mentioned are perfect examples.
ah good one with the ing.. I've been scanning some ideas on and off the since the .me's.. I just found a good one, but I'm going to check a few more options rep added
Although I must admit some .me are cool, they aren't worth much imo. ICANN is considering opening the domain name extensions for everyone to register, even .com will be loosing bit of it's value soon (let alone .me). I got couple .me domains, just for fun too
Really? I always thought that every time a new extension was added be it, .me .biz or whaterver.. .com domains become even more rare and therefore more valuable. Just think in five years, there will be even less .com domain names available. Also no matter what what other extensions are released, I think .com will always stick as being the golden standard since it was the first and immediately recognizable as internet material.
How do you figure that? I would imagine you might be right when considering maybe the short term. Overall, I think that the "dilution" caused by having so many extensions will only serve to make .com domains all the more recognized...similar to what perfect_square said. I also think that mainly personal subject domain names (like love.me) and ones with keywords that make sense as a phrase ending with me (like insure.me) will be the ones with immediate high value. Others will probably be marginal for a while... (assuming the extension continue to grow) .
I agree with mozzeratti. Even if one day any TLD is allowed, I think .me will still be one of the best... It's a very good TLD for hacks. We think ".com" as the best TLD today because we are used to it and it has a "notoriety". But in 10 years things will be different.
That's insane, I mean, I knew the .me TLD was popular at the moment, but I didn't realise they would fetch those sort of prices!!!
I had receipts for .me's also... for the auction.. but for some reason my login didn't work and I wasn't allowed to participate ^_^ ...its not a big deal though.. they weren't that great of names anyways... ...for insure.me.. I wouldn't be suprised if it hits the $35,000-$40,000 level... its a nice name.. and definately worth the price!!
It's now $26,185! It looks like they are incrementing the price by 5$ every 20h or so! I guess the auction will still be running in 2 years!
