Since many of us are self employed I was wondering what those of you in the US do for health insurance? Usually it is tied to employment and purchasing it on your own can be expensive. What does everyone else do?

They pay the doctor up front before you go in and see him?

That gets expensive fast and some docs won't even see you if you don't have insurance. Most doc visits are over $100 bucks a visit, plus another 100 for medication. A hospital bill is sometimes over $10,000 and if you get a long term ailment like cancer you are looking at $100,000 or more. If you are very rich I guess you don't need health insurance but most people do.

Trust me I would love to have it but I only visit my doctor once every 4 months for refills on blood pressure meds, sleeping meds and pain meds.

My doctor visit is $60.00 and the medication is $4 each, the company I work for offers healthcare for around $88.00 a month.

I actually come out better paying up front at the doctor then having healthcare.

Wow, you are able to get drugs for $4 without insurance? That is crazy cheap.
