Instant Quotes on Designer Websites? Or classics via Email?

    Hey guys,

I have a question for you. I'm redoing my designing and coding portfolio right now and I was wondering if I should put an instant quote box on the website. Like have the client fill out all the details and then get an automated quote?

Or should I make them contact me via email and then I would look over the work and give them a quote.

Let me know where you guys stand on this.

    Thanks,

Try both ways out and see which way works better for you.

I would suggest a combined approach.
    You can make the following:
    - a quote box but it should be very simple; in the box put a link to a advanced quote generator
    - a page with the advanced quote generator where you get more details from the visitor; on this page you give him the option to send you a message requesting for contact and a more detailed quote

    What do you think?
Let us know how it works.

I can tell you that personally I don't like websites that offer info only via email. I feel like they are trying to rip me off. Besides I have no clue how much someone else has paid for a similar project completed and I like to be able to compare prices when I visit the website for the first time. Why should I share lots of details and exchange emails just to get a quote?I think you should have a general price for each type of project and mentioning that for an accurate quote (since projects are different) they should send an email.
