Instant PR?

I've seen a lot of new sites pop up on DPF that seem to have an instant PR of 4, PR 5 or PR 6 and sell perm links for $2 to $10. How do these sites get this PR value so fast and more so, what gives? Links so cheap, just sounds fishy :(

They are expired domains or the pr is fake.

I would say that may be jumping the gun a little bit.

I have a site that I just started working on a few weeks ago and it already jumped up to a PR3 and I don't believe the name had been registered before. All I've done to the site is a bunch of one way linking.

I was actually surprised when I saw it since i thought I had missed the PR update. Not that PR really matters that much anymore.

Yes, they are sites built on Expired domains..

The best way to check is : check the WHOIS about registration date,, or check google backlinks and so.

Type the domain at http://www.smartpagerank.com and it will tell you if its pake or not. Checks to see if the page is indexed by google, then it checks the pagerank against the number of backlinks.
