Today I will be showing you an instant five second trick I used to reduce my bounce rate. When I reveal this "trick" you might be surprised and think "Hey why didn't I think of that" So what is this big secret? Videos. Videos? Yeah I said videos. Videos keep your visitors engaged for a longer amount of time then with just a regular post. Here are some rules to follow. Try to find videos that are: Entertaining, Useful or Both. Please do not post a thirty minute video explaining a long complicated math algorithm. Most people will find that boring. Remember to try to find reasonable videos in the 90 second timeline. So what is your take on this? Videos or no videos?
Videos can help, but only if they are interesting and entertaining. If the video is boring or even worse is constantly buffering and reloading then it is going to turn people away just as much. I think that quality, in every aspect of the word is what is going to help keep bounce rates down.
Nice tip. On blogs I also use the related posts plugin for wordpress. Seems to keep folks around a little longer.
Yes, videos are a good way to keep people interested. But if the video is bad or of poor quality then it is just as big of a turn off as if there weren't any videos.
Thanks for the tip. Another thing is if you want to add a video, please don't make it play automatically. It can be very annoying.
Does clicking the "play" in videos will automatically give you 0 percent bounce rate? I mean I know you will get a 100 percent bounce rate when your visitor didn't click any links pointing within your domain. Now if your visitor click any links going to another page then its 0 percent bounce rate already. So does a click to a "play" button in your video counted as a link within your domain? Honestly I don't think so. So if your visitor watched your 10 minute video and then close your browser or click a link pointing outside of your domain then thats still a 100 percent bounce rate. Unless your video can make your visitor visit your another page of yours (within the domain) then videos will not solve sites high bounce rate problems.
When I started posting my videos on my blog, the bounce rate did not go down, but the average time on site increased. In some cases the time on site doubled, just by putting some videos on the main page. There are some issues with using videos - some of the videos might be wide screen, so they might not fit your sites theme. And, loading the preview image for the video might take a few seconds - so your site might be seen as taking longer to load.
Yes short videos will work. Make it clear and entertain the watcher. It will make the visitor keep coming back to find new videos
