I add my site continuously on link machine directories or many other instantly adding website. I give them 3 way backlinks. There I find lot of irrelevant links in the category. My question is, " If I add there my link, will it be harmful to my site?" Please guide me
The better link is often the one that comes from a negotiation, and follow through with other webmasters from e-mails, or face to face whatever. If you get links from directories, you will often be paying or providing a reciprocal. What you want to look out for here is that some search engines like google tend to look for sites that link to "bad neighborhoods", or sites that are linked from "bad neighborhoods" and adjust their rankings accordingly. That being said if you do a seach for "site:<insertdomainhere.com>" on google, and their pages are ranking you can be sure that they aren't banned, and if you look up their keywords and they are showing up, chances are google and other search engines won't detriment your site for containing the link. Be warned however since no one except the search engines themselves know exactly what is going on with their rankings, that this is all speculation. Social bookmarking sites are a great place to spread your links around too, and don't be afraid to get links from sites that are well respected, but have low page rank, because although that pretty little green bar sits high and mighty atop your browser, the number of people coming to your site, and the number of ways they have to get there, is the ultimate determiner of whether or not you are successful.
