Hi, a friend gave her laptop for me to re-install windows. The laptop is ok (theoretically works fine with windows7, which I was about to install), but won't work through the install:

    1) Tried to boot through the CD ... tries loading ... then says error loading sth
2)Tried through windows ... error occurred at last step of installation at 99% at checking new system.
3)After second attempt of installing via windows ... it can't find the drivers nor "C:" nor "D:"

current version is windows xp pro

    Would appreciate help

If it is erroring when trying to do a fresh install of the OS, you may have a bad CD/DVD drive. If you have a USB CD/DVD drive, try using that. Really need more info. about it to help more.
