My dedicated server host sucks, becuase they want $150/hour just to install awstats. Just for a test, I asked if they could help code one small PHP page, and they were like "150/hour!". Anyway, I am trying to install AWstats on my dedi. I haven't done much with servers, so I want to know how I could do it, without paying 150 dollars an hour. Thanks
A hard answer is: "Read the AWStats doc and install it according to the doc." This does not cost anything. If you have trouble during the installation, post a message here or in a forum dedicated to AWStats and you will probably get help. This does not cost anything either. If all this install stuff sounds complicated or if you have no time to search or study it, send me a private message and I will do it for you for much less than 150 $/hour... Jean-Luc
I haven't installed awstats in a while, but I remember that the hard part was making sure your log stats were in the correct format. You will need to edit your http.conf (i believe) and look for the log file format and destination. You would need this info to plug into your awstats configuration file so it knows where to find the log files. You will need to make sure your awstats in installed into a protected directory because you wouldn't the world to be able to look at your stats. Not much, hope it helps out. As Jean-Luc said, read the instructions. I remember that they were really good.
The instructions are pretty straight forward, and as cpucandy said - just need to make sure your log files are in the correct location. Apart from that it should be pretty easy for you to install.
