I am trying to installing AVG Antivirus 7.5 for Windows, which is meant to be Free, however it's asking for the License Number during the installation.

    What's with that?

I think I figured it. AVG download from download.com isn't the trial, or something is up dunno. Trial install from there website supplies the license info.

you need to go back to the AVG site to download the free verison
just search google with "free avg" and you will find that page. The download link is at the bottom of the page

right, I bet the DL.com version might be like the "pro" setup where they give you all the adders not included in the free version.

much like the difference between Zonealarm and Zonealarm Pro

I downloaded and now using the new free version of AVG.
Had no problems going from the previous version to the new version.

It still is free for personal use.

pretty slick - I like the reporting dialog better in 7.5

what kinda torqs me off is that the previous version didn't alert me to the new one being available!!

AVG rocks. I have been using the paid version on my main machine and the free version on my laptop. Looks like 7.5 is a major upgrade - I have been playing with it for a couple of weeks (in beta and now). No problems that I can see.

    I think I did! I just don't remember which one :)

either that or I've had to change it 7 times since then  on account of the 7.2 metric tons of junk mail!

    sorry man!

search for AV threads on here, there were 2 recently about AV SW.

I remember Avast being mentioned as a good alt to AVG.

I switched to AVG Free after having my comp ruined by various other paid AV programs. It works like a charm.

Wow - people still use Norton?

Yeah - switch to AVG. I have been using it since 2002.

AVg is the best. If you download it then select run, rather than save it and open it, you will not have to mess about with any validation codes etc.
