I've got a dedicated linux server from GoDaddy. There is already some stuff running on the web site... a blog and a forum. I would like to add a store and I am thinking about Magento. Unfortunately my server doesn't have the mcrypt extension required for Magento to run. It is my understanding that mcrypt and a library that goes with it need to be installed, and then php recompiled for it to work. I haven't worked with this before and I am a little worried about possible problems I could cause. Does anyone have experience with similar issues that could point me in the right direction?
You will need to recompile your PHP to have mcrypt extension. Btw, have you run a complete requirement check? -joseph
If you have cPanel server then you will need to recompile PHP with mcrypt option. You can recompile from WHM but if you have no experience then I would suggest to hire administrator because if the recompilation is failed due to some reasons then all your site will stop working. Kailash
The server's control panel is Plesk. Failure is what I'm worried about. If the site goes down we'd be in trouble. By complete requirement check, you mean a check of what's needed for magento? If that's what you mean, here is the requirement check results:
