I have just started a new site which is unknown to the outside world. I was thinking of writing a blog with a link to it. My web hosting offers a blog and of course there is wordpress too. My logic says that an outside blog like wordpress would be a better platform as it is well known, but are there any advantages of using my unknown domain as a blog to link to my site? Which would help more with getting more people to find my site and for the PR to go up (if that helps)? I am also thinking of using the blog for people to leave comments so that I don't have to put my e-mail address on my site.
