Taking it back to McCain's statements which started this thread......

His comments depressed me. He inferred the war would go on for what is another five years. That would make it a 10 year war. His comments suggested most soldiers would return. Not all. That infers years of additional troops in Iraq.

He used the term victory. Somehow, I have an enormous problem with that term, when it presupposes 10 years of fighting in a overseas war far from our borders costing hundreds of billions, untold thousands of lives, etc.

I find McCain's vision deeply disturbing.

WWI, WWII, Korea, Gulf War.. Look back on history. Traditionally a US presence remains after a conflict to help aid in keeping democracy strong, and to continue helping aid against foreign threats.

Do you honestly think Obama is going to become president and just go, hey, my first order of business is, lets get out of Iraq; and everyone comes home?

Even Obama knows that a US presence will remain in Iraq. I don't think he is a complete idiot. Less than truthful, yes, stupid, er.. not entirely.

Jeremy: I took McCain's comments to mean that levels of fighting and war would have continued to occur over the ensuing 5 years.

We didn't fight in any of those wars or others for 10 years. Think of it and think of the drain on life and finances, let alone the military.

I'm of the opinion that based on current conditions we shouldn't just leave immediately. I'm also of the opinion we should skew toward getting out sooner rather than later. This effort is costing more than its worth.

As to exactly what Obama thinks or does ....who knows.

But based on how you feel about him :D....he should come on this forum and tell us what he thinks about you!!! :D

I think it should not sit well with you that this flipp flopper McNasty also stated that we have actually WON the war in Iraq, so now he is saying that we have actually not won, but will win. Whoever supports this madman is crazy!

It is deeply disturbing to think that under the McCain concept we will be fighting for an additional 5 years. Regardless what he has said earlier, this most current statement paints a picture of where he wishes to lead the nation. The US has never been in a 10 year war. A ten year war, if maintainted at the cost level that it has been would seriously drain the US financially. Injuries and deaths would probably reach unacceptable levels in the eyes of the majority of the population. At its current level the two wars we have been in, have seriously harmed the state of ground forces -> specifically the marines and army. It could not be sustained.

McCain needs to restate this and declare if he envisions 5 more years of fighting. If he envisions a situation of troops in the land but not fighting, (as Mia suggests)such as in Europe, or Korea, that is a very different scenario.

    I would like clarification.

Careful now...at the rate you are becoming aware of what is REALLY happening to us all, you will have Gtech and Mia start calling you terrrist supporter and anti-American for questioning the decisions of those who are supposed to actually WORK for your benefit, but are in reality lining the pockets of big corporations and the industrial complex with YOUR and MY hard earned money. Then again a so called "war on terror" which in my view is one big freaking scam (a front) is far more important than your kids education, their health care, economical stability and so on, so long the BUSHes and the Cheneys and their greedy bastard friends get richer on their blood. But hey you don't expect the average Gtech or Mia to actually see beyond their 'picket fence' now do you?

It's a question of what they can get people to buy - think about what people have bought over the last 8 years. They know people are gullible. It's complete nonsense. McCain = Bush.

Iraqi Army is getting stronger and receiving new M16s and K-Pots.

    Cut and Run = defeat

Pull out of Iraq and it wouldn't be long before there's another attack on New York.

This is just silliness Bogart. You can't even define the victory conditions, so how can you define defeat?

If we don't learn from having bases in Saudi Arabia, which triggered the first attacks, then staying in the ME will guarantee a future attack.

When you do something that doesn't work, it's fairly smart to change your approach. Occupying the Middle East and intervening in local politics continues to cost American blood and treasure.

Doesn't matter anyways. We can only stay until we're broke, and that's not far off. Except when we're broke, our enemies will be pounding down the door, salivating at the thought of tearing our throats out for past transgressions.
