This is a fun thread, and useful too. Maybe you could consider a 'what is the best thing you did' to your blog too. I have a submission if you do that.

kidding (about the mad part)....... :p

anyway, still hoping for more inputs esp from those more experienced, but been getting feedback that they cannot think of anything, maybe that's why they are so successful... haha.

you will never know until you experience it yourself.

I used categories dump on one of my directory too, and after you upgrading the script or adding / deleting categories, you will start having a problem. If you not editing it at all, the category structure is not unique.

Yes selling site wide links at cheap for longer period (looking for upfront payments) that seems common mistake, and i did too :) But, you cannot name it as mistake it is promotional technique actually which benefits both buyer and seller.

Another mistake that is mentionable, i turned one of my Free Directories into Paid after giving away so many free listings.

Trusting someone for a link that disappears off the page a few days later :(

Thiers no need to advertise you have a PR link for sale then a few days or a week later remove it or down right offer something you dont own ...( a link on a forwarded PR pages that doesnt even exist  )

yes that tends to burn my azzzzzzz

    thx

tks for sharing malcolm1. But are these really your MOST painful mistakes? Seems a little trivial to qualify, no offence :p
