HI everybody! I have just discovered that forum so this is my first thread... I just filled up the copyright for the brand of my website (INPI), and I am wondering if this protects me from having competitors buying my brand keyword on google adwords to rank above me?? Ex: my website is www.websitename.com, can any competitors buy the keyword "websitename" on adwords? Thanks in advance for your replies! Albaarto
Anyone can bid on any word. There is no restrictions, whether that word is a trademark or not. What you can do however is ask Google to limit the use of your trademark in the ad copy.
Really interesting, thank you! However, how do i ask google to limit the use of my trademark in the ad copy?
A copyright gives you no protection on a brand name. You need a registered trademark (international if you are not in the US and looking for broad protection) - and even then you can't restrict any use of the word, only from similar/competing usage.
