Hi all, I would like to strike up a conversation about inner page links vs home page links. I know you want all the links you can pointing to your home page because the PR will trickle into the inner pages. But alot of people will naturally point to the inner pages and I am sure this is good for google because it looks natural to have links pointing to the inner pages. If I was to start a link campaign and I have five pages, each page is a different targeted keyword, will I point all the links to the home page regardless of targeted keyword anchor text or should I point the links to the inner pages that I am targeting for that keyword? Inner links are good for G however will the overall site get PR for inner links? Will only that inner page that gets the links Rank for that search term in the anchor text? Thanks for any and all input. Mark
I will choose the most related subpages for my link. Some subpages can be more powerful that the homepage itself. Just do a bit of analysis and you should be able to tell the differences.
Ok. But lets say I hire a link building company. I need to tell them the anchor text and to what page I want the links going to. Should I tell them to point them all at the home page regardless of keyword?
your subpages will effect the pr of your other pages and it will have a serp position with their anchor txt
When you say "other pages", do you mean below or above? Will it effect the Home page in a positive way? P.S. I impressed by the number of posts....wow...
Of course the home page passes pr to deeper pages and deeper pages passes pr to the homepage.Deeplinking is a method widely used.
I have been using this technique for a while (pointing incoming links to pages other then the home page) and I have found that it seems to help the PR spread across the sites better
Inner links are good for highlighting a keyword for a specific page. If you are only interested in direct hits to your homepage, point all links to the!
There is a saying for this, a rising tide floats all ships.. Meaning, links to any page will help boost the pages directly linked to it, then to a lesser extent the pages linked to these and so on. Definately link your inner pages with their appropriate anchors, float the whole ship my friend.
If you look at the sitemaps you can see links pointing to your inner pages , if they knew them , they use them
Well lets take a hypothetical situation. Situation: 1) We have a secondary site (say def.com) with a totally different URL that has lots of links to it. Its bringing us in leads. 2) Our main site site is dropping in rankings. Would it do any good to 301 def.com to abc.com/def/? By the way, thanks again for all the info. __________________
