so I have been working on a keyword to my front page as of recently to try to bring it also to the front page along with many other keywords of mine. It is a 2 word keyword with decent traffic, so I am looking forward to getting it to the top 10 After a few weeks the keyword started coming up and was on page 3 with my homepage. After a little while longer the keyword was still on page 3 but with an inner page of mine (i think google found my inner page to more relevant or something?). Well I kept doing SEO and link building to the front page and now it is on the 2nd page of Google but still for my inner page. Should I just move to link building the inner page instead?
As long as your keywords don't have a conflict or some sort of competition of keyword dominance with each other, it's OK to build more the keyword for that specific page. I think keywords tend to be pulled down when your pages have all the same keywords to index with.
Hows tricks? Does it matter? That might sound flippant but actually it is pertinent. Does the inner page funnel the traffic in the same way as the TLD? is it easier to optimise SEO wise? If it doesn't matter and you can still optimise it more then go for the inner page. If not keep working on your front page with links from all sorts of places such as Squidoo, hubpages, EZA, social bookmarking sites, go articles etc, etc. The more diverse the IP the links come from the better
I would suggest you to focus on your specific inner page for that keyword, or move the content to frontpage.
Diversity and looking natural is the key I usualy concentrate on Homepage(domain name) but if you can definitly build for deep links/inner pages ... to make it look more real and help all site ...
I think sometime it happens due to Google dance so just concentrate on your seo techniques. carry on your efforts.
Try also to promote your inner page as your landing page on your keyword. If both page rank in first page of the search engine, then it's possible that your traffic will be doubled.
ya the thing is that the keyword is slightly unique and refers to specific and general things. This is why both of these pages work well. I think I will build on both of them and see what happens, maybe on front page google will show subpage as well?
You should build both pages up. You will not want to neglect either one of them. having both of them on high rankings would ensure you would have more clickthroughs.
